I am an active patron of the Rwandan Sisterhood. We have representatives from ten countries. We raise funds for the essential mama packs which are given to mothers who are 8 months pregnant. This pack contains all that a mother and baby need should the delivery be unassisted. The pack costs £25. Each mother receives a hand knitted blanket – this is the first item these women receive that is new and that they can keep. We develop the women’s self-sufficiency skills by establishing knitting workshops. We support a voluntary clinic in Kigali, a nursery school and a feeding project. I lead visits to Rwanda where, for a week, we help in these activities.
